  • Ethical question for all you loyal Mennonite readers: if you're like me, you grew up with the understanding that you don't ever buy stuff on Sunday, with the possible exception of gasoline, and that's only as a last resort.

So, all else being equal*, is it worse to buy an energy drink on Sunday morning on your way to church, or to fall asleep during the sermon?

*Assuming that “you should have just gotten more sleep the night before” and “just pray that God will keep you awake” are not viable answers.

On another note, the craziness never stops at the Smucker house. Sunday afternoon I was packing up all my stuff to move back to Corvallis, and taking my old office chair out to the trash in pieces. Ben took one look at it and suggested we use what used to be the back as a sled...going down the stairs. The following videos were taken on my phone and aren't the greatest quality, but watch them anyway. Especially the last one.

    Here's Ben...

Here's Steven...I did it too, but obviously didn't get a video of myself.

And here, ladies and gentlemen, is the esteemed author, mother, and minister's wife herself trying it.  I still can't believe we convinced her to do it...
